Encouraging growth around your stations
Rice fields cropped up soon after the train started running between our stations, but after that there was no more development. This is because we don't have enough resources. Now we need to secure a steady source of resources in order to construct buildings.
Resources are necessary for the development of a city. You must have them to build residential, business, and commercial buildings. Resources are created at factories and must be brought to storage sites via freight trains. Let's take a look at this process from start to finish.
First, you need to construct a resource storage site. You'll want to place it close to the area that needs the resources. If you place it too far away, it may not be able to keep up with demand.
And if it's too far away from the station, the resources won't be able to be transported from the factory to the storage site.
Next, we will build a factory and a freight station a little ways away from the storage site. But the resources created at a factory cannot be used until they are loaded onto a freight train and taken to a storage site.
Now we build a switchyard. Passengers can't get on or off at a switchyard, but they are cheaper to build and maintain than normal stations.
Next, we need to build a platform for the freight train to use. Adding platforms later on requires that you rebuild the station, so it is recommended that you build the freight platform right from the beginning.
You might also want to just go ahead and build a freight station, since you will need it in the future.
In order to transport resources, you need a freight train. Commuter trains and express trains cannot be used. Here, we decided to buy a 5-car freight train to transport resources from our factory.
Factories do not produce resources on holidays. If you set the timetable so that the train runs only on weekdays, you will avoid unnecessary costs.
Immediately after the resources were brought to the storage site, they disappeared and some houses appeared around the station. They must have been starved for resources! The rush of residential construction will continue for some time, serving as foundation for future development.
